Transatlantic Conference - " Which Transatlantic Relationship After the Global Crisis? " October 3-4, 2011 in Houston (Texas, USA)Vendredi 5 Août 2011
On October 3-4, 2011, in Houston (Texas, USA), within the framework of the conference entitled " Which Transatlantic Relationship After the Global Crisis? ", Franck Biancheri will be making his first public appearance in the US since 2005, when he spoke in the GlobalEurope 2020 EU/USA conference that took place in Washington, DC at the Hamilton hotel. He had then decided, on the one hand, to focus on anticipating the global systemic crisis, launching and then coordinating the GEAB's monthly edition, and, on the other hand, to take action in order to strengthen the process of integration and democratisation of the EU while exploring the paths towards the EU's future strategic international relations, in particular with the BRICS countries. At the moment when the global systemic crisis is entering a new and dangerous stage, with the United States at the center once again, he has decided to go and tackle directly (along with US decisions-makers, experts and the public) the difficult question of the drastic changes that Transatlantic relations are about to experience in the coming years.
The profound upheaval that the crisis entails in the United States, Europe and the world as a whole are sweeping away the principles of Transatlantic relations as we have known them since 1945. For this reason, Franck Biancheri considers that the time is ripe for Europeans and Americans to address bluntly and efficiently these difficult issues. Thanks to the Texan institutions Stephen F. Austin State University and the University of St. Thomas, which are co-organizing the event, the opportunity has been given to him to prove that it is possible, and urgently needed, to expand this wide-ranging project, which goes beyond the mere relations between Americans and Europeans, and affects global balances via the G20, IMF, the UN, etc. According to Franck Biancheri (see his book " World crisis - The Path to the World Afterwards "), the window of opportunity for this crisis to be a mere transition towards a world organised along 21st century needs, as opposed to 20th century ones, will only remain open from 2012 to 2016/2017. If it is missed, the world will be heading towards a tragic scenario of conflicts among large regional blocs. Forecasting and anticipations on the crisis, on the evolution of the EU and the US, on their relations and on the organisation of the world in the coming years -- these are the themes that Franck Biancheri will be addressing in Houston next October, together with other members of the LEAP/E2020 team and various US experts and think-tank leaders.
